The Banquets Department at The Read House Hotel is seeking a motivated and detailed-orientated Banquet Set-Up team member to assist with the moving, set up, and breakdown of all event furnishings.

Who We Are Looking For

As a Banquet Set-Up/ House Person, you will be responsible for the set up and breakdown of banquet events held throughout the property. Your detailed nature will help you succeed in following the banquet event orders for the room set up requested by our clients.

The Banquet Set-Up/ House Person position is full-time and candidates should have open availability in order to meet the needs of event set up/ break down and event space detailing.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up event spaces according to the banquet event orders including chairs, tables, linens, buffets, etc. for banquet events according to the clients request
  • Read banquet event orders and diagrams and correctly execute the details of the event
  • Ensure the event spaces are regularly cleaned and maintained
  • Inspect equipment used for cleanliness, proper storage, and working condition on a regular basis, reporting any misuse or damages equipment to the proper department
  • Breakdown event spaces promptly according to schedule of events
  • Participate in swift room set changes to ensure all events are executed on time
  • Display flexibility during event changes, executing them with timeliness and precision
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting the banquet service team, and other departments throughout the hotel
  • Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when business requires

Job Requirements

Education/ Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous banquet service or house person experience preferred

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with guests, team members, and management
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding event and room set up diagrams

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Must be able to maneuver chair and table cart and dolly
  • Position self in order to obtain necessary supplies and efficiently clean assigned areas
  • See clearly both near and far (to detect cleanliness and discrepancies)
  • Traverse work areas including the complex and all event space areas
  • Ability to work efficiently and productively with little supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, sometimes more than 8 hours
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-demand, fast-paced environment with changing variables

Work Environment

  • Ability to work varied shift lengths including weekends and late night events
  • This position requires the ability to work in temperatures of varying degrees
